awkwardness is a state of mind
                an opinion

something that changes with the times

it is known to be false
            like the secrets written upon a paper chain

awkwardness is a mobius strip
           no end in sight

the one shade of difference between
          right and wrong

it’s easily given
    and easily taken
           like Vicodin in the E.R.

awkwardness is the difference between
     what one wants to do
         and what they know they can’t

it’s the piece of snow stuck to an eyelash
      not terrible but not asked for, either.

it’s the instance between dreaming and wakefulness
       the moments when life is picture perfect
           and no one can do wrong

awkwardness is the moment between realizing
      life was being lived too fast
          and the screeching of metal
               the explosion of a secret
                    as life goes up in flames

awkwardness is knowing
     to create is to destroy

it’s knowing that nothing will be the same
     as it once was
        before the apocalypse
           before the breakdown of belief

it’s knowing when something is wrong
     and watching it happen anyway
          keeping quiet when life could depend on screaming
